District Rural Development Agency headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) take care of all development activities in the district under different schemes.

3. Swarnjayanti Gram Sawrozagar Yojna has been introduced from 1-04-1999 by replacing all self employment centrally sponsored programme. In this programme subsidy/loan is provided to families living below poverty line for taking up Economic generating activities in rural area of the district. According to the guidelines of the schemes 50%of the benefit physical as well as financial is to be given to SC beneficiaries and 40% to woman and 3% to handicapped District Rural Development Agency 28.34 lacs 201 SCs 75 women
4. Jawahar Gram Samridhi Youjana (JGAY) is centrally sponsored scheme, dedicated entirely to the development of rural infrastructure at the village level, on cost sharing basis between the center & the State in ratio of 75:25 It is open to all rural poor who are in need of wage employment, persons below the poverty line would become eligible under the scheme for unskilled labour. 60% weightage is given to the rural SC/ST Secretary, Zila Parishad Rs. 139.34 Lacs 884 Gram panchayats
5. Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) is also centrally sponsored scheme co-shared between the centre &state in the ratio of 75:25. The objective of the scheme is provide houses to the members of scheduled caste in the rural area below the poverty line. Further this benefit has been extended upto the 40% to the non SC below the poverty line Rs.20000 is given as grant in aid for the construction of a new house, while Rs.10000 is given for the upgradation of semi Kutcha Pucca house. Apart from it loan of Rs. 40000 is granted by the bank with a subsidy of Rs. 10000 by the Govt of India under Credit cum Subsidy Scheme (a subsidiary of IAY )to the persons belonging to the SC community above the poverty line

The identification of the beneficiaries is done in the Gram sabha in the presence of block committee headed by the BDPO. Funds are released through Distt. 6. Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojna was also launchad by the Govt. of India during 2000-2001 as a supplementary scheme to IAY Secretary,Zila Parishad Rs.19.40 lakhs Rs.6.50 Lakhs 97 new houses (72SCs) upgradation of 65 houses(61SCs)under PMGY
7. Employment Assurance scheme(EAS)is a centrally sponsored scheme co shared between Center & the State in the ratio of 75,25. It is open to all rural poor who are in need of wage employment, for the persons living below poverty line. As per guidelines, works under the EAS should be labour intensive and funds are spent in the ratio of 60.40 ( wages & expe ) Secretary, Zila Parished Rs. 144.34 lakhs Creating 1.17 lakhs mandays ( 1.56 lakhs mandays for SCs )
8. Providing of five Marlas plot to houseless SCUnder this scheme houseless SCs in rural areas are selected by the Gram Sabha and only married persons who have no house of their own are eligible to get five marlas plots for construction of their house District Development and Panchyat Officer In the Jalandhar district 4847 Acres Mushtarka Malkan land and 3907 acres sham lat land is given on lease every year and out of this one fourth is reserved for SCs. A total of 2188 Acres land have been given to SC for cultivation in Jalandhar district uptil now

3. Mahila Jagriti Yohna This scheme is aimed at making the ladies from the families below poverty line economically and socially independent. The scheme was started from 8 march 1999, International Women Day
4. Balika Samridhi Yojna This scheme was introduced on 15.8.1997 for the benefit of girls from BPL families to make them equivalent to boys in the society. Under this scheme scholarship is given from Rs. 300 to 1000 upto the 10th class
5. Free Buss Passes This scheme was introduced from 01.01.1997, Ladies above the age of 60 years are provided 50% concession in Punjab Roadways Buses. The department has issued 50712 identity cards
6. Kishori Shakti scheme Girls between the age of 11 to 18 years are given guidance for health care, diet etc. by the staff of Health department, education department and Distt. Programme officer
7. Mahila Shakti Karan Ladies are given guidance for all around development i.e. education and for making them self dependent by taking income generating activities.
8. Mahila Mandal The crafts centers are run by Mahila Mandal to give training to the rural ladies in stitching, embroidery and jam preparation. Smokless chulah have been given in 37 villages. Lectures on general awareness against dowry and child marriage
